Personalized Consultation
Unlike other New York City surgeons, Dr. Harris spends one-on-one time with each patient. During your consultation, he’ll answer all your questions, explain your options, and provide you with a detailed treatment plan. You’ll go into the procedure feeling comfortable, confident, and prepared.
Liposuction Surgery Day
We perform liposuction as an outpatient procedure under local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia, depending on the treatment area and extent. We make small, discreet incisions near the target area, and break up and remove unwanted fat via a cannula.
Recovery and Healing
Most patients experience temporary bruising, numbness, soreness, and burning sensations, but most of these effects will subside within a few days or weeks. We recommend wearing compression garments to help shape your new contours and support healing. Most patients return to work and light activities within a week
Results and Transformation
Liposuction requires patience, as you might not fully see the results until three to six months after your surgery, once the swelling fully resolves. After the area has completely healed, you’ll notice a visibly firmer, tighter physique. If you maintain a stable weight, liposuction transformations can last a lifetime.

Liposuction FAQs
What is liposuction, and am I a good candidate?
What areas of the body can be treated with liposuction?
Liposuction can treat many areas where localized fat deposits occur, including the abdomen, waist, hips, thighs, buttocks, back, arms, and under the chin. Dr. Harris will evaluate your body shape and goals to determine which areas can benefit from treatment.
How much does liposuction cost? Will insurance cover liposuction?
The cost of liposuction depends on factors such as the number and size of treatment areas, surgical technique, anesthesia, and your individual treatment plan. Because liposuction is generally considered a cosmetic procedure, health insurance typically does not cover it. Dr. Harris will provide a personalized cost estimate during your consultation.
Is liposuction a weight-loss procedure, and how much fat can be removed?
Liposuction is a body contouring procedure, not a weight-loss treatment. It is intended to remove localized fat deposits and improve body proportions rather than produce significant weight loss. The amount of fat that can be safely removed varies by patient.
What is the difference between liposuction and a tummy tuck?
Liposuction removes excess fat but does not remove significant amounts of loose skin or tighten separated abdominal muscles. A tummy tuck removes excess abdominal skin and can tighten the underlying abdominal wall, while liposuction may be added to improve contour.
How long does liposuction recovery take, and when can I return to normal activities?
Recovery varies depending on the number and extent of treatment areas. Most patients can resume light activities within several days and return to work within about a week, depending on their job and recovery. Strenuous exercise and heavy lifting are generally restricted for several weeks. Swelling and bruising gradually improve as your body heals.
Are liposuction results permanent, and can the fat come back?
The fat cells removed during liposuction are permanently removed, but the remaining fat cells can enlarge if you gain weight. Maintaining a stable weight and healthy lifestyle can help preserve your results. Significant weight gain can alter your body contours and affect the appearance of your results.
What are the risks and complications of liposuction?
Liposuction is generally safe when performed on an appropriate candidate, but like any surgery, it carries potential risks. These can include bleeding, infection, fluid accumulation, changes in sensation, contour irregularities, asymmetry, and skin changes.
Will my skin be loose or saggy after liposuction?
The amount of skin tightening after liposuction depends largely on your skin’s elasticity. Patients with good skin elasticity may see the skin contract around their new contours, while significant loose or lax skin may remain. If excess skin is a major concern, Dr. Harris may recommend a procedure such as a tummy tuck in addition to or instead of liposuction.
