Expert Breast Revision on Long Island

We know this is a big decision for you, especially if you’ve previously had a breast augmentation, other cosmetic procedure, or a breast reconstruction that didn’t go to plan or deliver the results you were hoping for. Our dedicated team is with you every step of the way, from your first consultation to your recovery. Here’s what that process looks like.

Initial Consult

From your very first meeting with Dr. Harris, you’ll feel the Harris Plastic Surgery difference. Dr. Harris has more than 30 years of experience as a plastic surgeon and takes the time to carefully listen to each and every patient.

He’ll want to hear your goals and concerns, learn about your prior breast procedures, explain his process and incision techniques, present options, and help you make the decision that’s right for you. You’ll never feel rushed, and your questions are always welcome.

Tailored Surgical Plans

Your breasts are unique, just like you! Dr. Harris meticulously develops a thorough, individualized surgical plan based on your specific anatomy and goals.

This customized assessment is key to a smooth, successful breast revision and is one of the reasons why Harris Plastic Surgery sees such positive patient outcomes. With careful pre-surgery planning, we make sure you can finally feel like the most confident version of yourself.

Surgery Day

For most of our patients, surgery is performed in an outpatient center, where you’ll be under general anesthesia and won’t feel a thing. Dr. Harris uses state-of-the-art surgical techniques to minimize incisions and scar tissue formation, which leads to a better end result and also reduces your recovery time.

Our breast revision patients are able to return home the same day, and we’ll make sure you have everything you need to get your recovery underway.

Healing & Support

Although the surgery itself is performed under general anesthesia, we also use an injectable long-lasting local anesthetic to increase your comfort and reduce the need for opioid-based pain relief.

Patients can usually manage pain with over-the-counter options, and (while everybody’s recovery journey is different) most can return to work after around two weeks. Our team will support you throughout the healing process, and we’re only a phone call away should you have any questions or concerns.

Frequently Asked Questions about Breast Revision

What is breast revision surgery, and who is a candidate?

Breast revision surgery corrects or improves the appearance, comfort, or function of breasts after a previous breast augmentation, reconstruction, or other breast surgery. You may be a candidate if you are experiencing implant complications, asymmetry, changes in breast shape, or dissatisfaction with a previous result.

Insurance coverage for revision breast reconstruction depends on the reason for surgery and your individual insurance plan. Revision procedures that address complications or reconstructive needs following mastectomy may qualify for coverage, while revisions performed solely for cosmetic reasons generally do not.

Breast revision can address a wide range of concerns, including asymmetry, changes in breast shape, implant displacement, capsular contracture, implant rupture, rippling, and changes following pregnancy, weight fluctuations, or aging. The appropriate procedure depends on the specific problem and your desired outcome.

Yes. Breast revision can often improve significant differences in breast size, position, shape, or nipple placement. Treatment may involve implant replacement or repositioning, reshaping breast tissue, a breast lift, fat grafting, or other techniques. Dr. Harris will develop a plan based on your anatomy and the cause of the asymmetry.

Yes. Implant replacement is not always necessary. Depending on the issue, revision may involve repositioning the existing implants, adjusting the surrounding tissue, performing a breast lift, or using fat grafting to improve contour. Dr. Harris will recommend the least extensive approach that can safely address your concerns.

Yes, breast revision can address many common implant-related complications. Depending on the problem, treatment may include removing scar tissue, repairing or reinforcing the implant pocket, repositioning or replacing the implant, or adjusting the surrounding breast tissue.

Yes. During breast revision, implants can be removed, replaced with new implants, or changed to a different size or type when appropriate. Some patients also choose to have an implant removed without replacement. Dr. Harris can discuss the available options and help you choose an approach that aligns with your current goals.

Yes. Breast revision can often be combined with a breast lift, fat grafting, implant replacement, or other breast procedures. Combining procedures can address both implant-related concerns and changes in the surrounding breast tissue in a single operation when medically appropriate.

Recovery varies depending on the extent of your revision and which procedures are performed. Many patients can return to light daily activities within several days and desk-based work within about one week. Strenuous exercise and heavy lifting generally need to be restricted for several weeks.

The appropriate timing depends on why you need revision and how your breasts are healing. Many concerns should be allowed time to settle as swelling decreases and tissues heal before another surgery is performed. Dr. Harris can evaluate your specific situation and recommend an appropriate timeframe.

Breast revision is safe when performed by a board-certified plastic surgeon, but (like all surgeries) carries risks. These include infection, bleeding, scarring, changes in sensation, asymmetry, capsular contracture, and implant-related complications. The cost varies depending on the problem being treated, the procedures required, anesthesia, and whether new implants are used. Dr. Harris will discuss your risks and provide a personalized cost estimate during your consultation.
